From the Desk of the President
BOMA Toledo Chapter
Thank you for visiting the BOMA Toledo website. BOMA Toledo is a member of BOMA (Building Owners and Managers), the leading trade organization for commercial property owners and managers in the US. Our Toledo chapter is also a member of Ohio BOMA, whose membership includes locals located in Cleveland, Columbus, Akron, Dayton and Cincinnati.
Each of these organizations, be it our local chapter, our state organization or National provide invaluable resources for the owners and managers of commercial real estate. On the local level we learn about what is happening in our own backyard, have the opportunity to tour new developments and learn about the application of new and exciting building features. In addition, we have tremendous networking opportunities with professionals that are facing the same challenges that we do on a daily basis. Our State organization is actively involved in monitoring legislation in state government that would adversely affect our business. To that end, Ohio BOMA sponsors an annual Advocacy Day, where members from all local chapters in our State gather in Columbus for a day to meet with our elected officials. I am proud to say that in the last few years our voices have been heard on various issues, including the expanding of the state sales tax and the preservation of historical tax credits that are so critical to the rejuvenation of our downtowns. Ohio BOMA also provides an opportunity for smaller companies to save on Workers Compensation rates by inclusion in the BOMA group. BOMA promotes professionalism in our field by establishing building standards that transcend state and local governments, it provides continuing education classes and the opportunity for professional designations like RPA, FMA etc. through BOMI International. Finally, BOMA is constantly advocating for our interests in Washington D.C.
This is my second term as President of our local BOMA chapter. My main goal for this year is to recruit new members to BOMA and in particular younger members. Similar too many service and trade organizations we are wrestling with membership. We need to recruit and provide value to the young people that are entering the work force and have chosen commercial real estate. There are many demands on our time and so little free time. I assure you that if you get involved in BOMA it will be a worthwhile investment. You will learn a lot and meet some great people and expand your network!
I would like to thank Anthony Serra immediate past President for his leadership this last year. Anthony has served our local chapter in so many different capacities and has always done and exceptional job – thanks Anthony!
Again, thanks for visiting our website and I hope to see you at a meeting in the near future. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to contact me at anytime.
